One other thing is, I've never owned a NEW Harley and would like to experience that.

Each time I have traded, I have gotten closer to not being upside down in the payment. Gotten a better interest rate also.
I decided to check a little deeper before making a final decision and have gotten a price from one dealer and am waiting to hear from another. I also had one tell me to show him a written quote and he would beat it.
Another ask if I would be interested in a new 2012 left over. He has 2 Ultra and 2 Classic he wants to deal on to be rid of them. Waiting on some numbers from him now.

I checked on my financing and am pre-approved for the same 6.5% rate up to 20k. Now it becomes a decision of do I really want a new bike or not.

I pretty well decided to let the warranty expire if I keep it. After 2 years I've not really had any thing other than front bearings and the neutral switch. Both realitively inexpensive fixes.

Back to trading;
I got a very good trade in offer and can get the Electra Glide for $22,500.00 out the door. Black with cruise control.
Dealer site shows $19,699.00 Base plus $295.00 for cruise. That's $19,994.00 plus tax, title, tags, dealer prep/fees and all. 22500-19994= $2506.00 for all the fees. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Not a steal maybe but a deal and that is the first offer.

If I can get it to $20,000.00 out the door some where, I think I'll do it. Maybe the new 2012 will come through under that.

Save the money, don't buy a warranty. I haven't had a warranty on my '09 FLHTC for two years and saved the dough. If something goes up, then I'll pay for it, if not, I'm saving money.

but you owe $16,000 on your bike right now, so you've got to add that to the loan amount. 20k + 16k = $36k... then you take your trade in off of that figure. kbb shows trade in value around $13.6. so if they give you $13, you're looking at $23k now. if you're lucky.

only you can answer the question of whether it is right for you. i'm not gonna say 'don't finance your toys', cause i've financed all 6 of my harleys. i've paid them off early (except for the one i'm paying right now), but don't let the shiny chrome blind you and make you do something stupid.

unless of course, one of the bikes you're looking at is a road glide. then do whatever it takes

You sound like a guy that I use to work with, he went out and bought on credit a computer to set up a budget. Spending more money to get back into debt does not make sense. You are falling for exactly what Harley does best get in permenately in debt. The only one that come out ahead is Harley. Me I would pay off the bike, but me there was no way in hell would I pay 15% for a bike.

Bottom line you have already made your decision. Good Luck

It's nice to own them first but it would be nice to own them first. Get what I mean?

Ha, 98 ultra I love people like you! They say a sucker is born every minute but you are just perpetuating a cycle. YOU CAN'T AFFORD A NEW BIKE. Also, your bike is fairly new so all you are doing is keeping up with the jones. Just keep working off what you owe on this bike and be happy and ride.

Right now the only thing you should be buying is some time with a financial advisor, and possibly someone who can teach you how to live within your means. The only difference between yours and a new one is the last 2 digits that follow 20** and something strange going on in your head. There is not a deal out there that would make it worthwhile for you that would not put you closer to the gates of financial hell. Worst of it is, you've been there done that already, but are none the wiser. Forget both the warranty and the idea of a new bike, for now. Maintain your current bike well, don't ride the s**t out of it, make your payments and when you are clearly not upside down, maybe then you can revisit your dream of owning new.

Screw the warranty. Pay off the bike that you have and ride it until you can really afford an upgrade.
I own 2 Harleys outright.
Took a 2 year loan on my 06 Bob.
Picked up an 09 RKC last year , paid cash.
Bikes are toys and not necessities.

Something wrong with the '09?? Trust me, if you decide to trade, you won't be able to enjoy it. Every time you look at it all you'll see is how much friggin' money you owe.

Keep your bike. Maintain it yourself. Ride it. Enjoy it. And once you PAY FOR IT you'll learn what Harley ownership really is. Right now, you're just renting.

and now I'll get off my soapbox:-)
