can't trust my thermometer
Ambient air temp on my 2005 ultra always shows 10 degrees or more than the real temp. What gives?
It's a POS!
Umm could it be because of the heat from the front cylinder, the temp sensor is mounted on the left side of the neck and as we all know, heat rises!
Like rleggs so correctly quoted, it is basically a useless, inaccurate space waster in our fairings. Take it out and install a oil temp gauge that will give you some info that is important to your bikes operation.
They make the air temp gauge so shitty that it forces you to remove it and replace it with an oil temperature gauge. It's an absolutely worthless thing to have on a motorcycle.
Welcome to the world of useless toys!! If you do a search function you will discover that a lot of people have removed the thermometer and have installed other gauges in that spot. I left mine there as I am entertained by how much it is off compared to outdoor ones that I pass by during my travels. So, relax, we all have experienced it if our bike came with one.
that's normal.
Thanks for the insight. I knew i'd get the scoop. Whatta great bunch!
just ignore it. you don't need a gauge to tell you it is either hot or cold.....
I ran the sensor for mine to the frame as close to the front cylinder so I could keep an eye on the temperature my nuts are cooking at! :)
