09 Ultra yeah.... I know..10,000 mile service NOW! Bought it SLIGHTLY used..LOL! Now it is time for the 10,000 mile service. I went down to the local Harley store and bought all the synthetic oils...Save one...The parts guy recommended Bel-Kamp 85-140 to me to reduce the clacking shift noise and to reduse the 5th gear whine....HOLY HOCKEY!! He was right!!! I cannot describe how much quieter it is....at least half...Have any of ya'll had an similar experience?

Harley put that clunk sound there for a reason. Why mess with perfection Lol
I just switched to redline v-twin trans oil. I'll see how it does tomorrow. Redline is some weird looking stuff, red and non transparent

I've had the Redline Shock Proof in for several oil changes now and am very happy with it.

You wouldn't mean Bel RAY 85-140 would you?

Yes Bel-Ray 85-140 helps with the clunk and quiets the whine down considerably, I use it.

Agreed. I have been using Redline Shock proof in every Big Twin tranny I have had and it is second to none. Smells like crap and thick like ketchup, but holy crap it does work!

As far as Bel Ray, i cannot comment but what i can tell you is that all of the HD delaers that used to carry RL not only carry Belray. Sounds like a shady business agreement to me but I digress...

I just did my 10k using Amsoil, 20/50 in the motor and primary and 75/140 in the trans and man what a difference from the HD oil. All of the valve chatter is gone, sifts smooth as silk, and no clunking. I guess I'm lucky to have a friend who is an Amsolil dealer, got the whole oil change for $60 including filter.

Does the red line shock proof work as well as the bel-kamp? I would love to go ALL the way synthetic....But I don't have the knowledge or vocabulary

just about any 85 140 gear lube will reduce the whine. I too use Bel-Ray 85-140 but have in a pinch, used any good synthetic automotive 85-140 gear lube in the tranny. It works just as well and usually cost less.
