Default do i need this rubber thing ?

Hi,
just taken out my rear wheel for powder-coat and there is a small rubber "bung" behind the cush drive pulley - see photo.

what is it for ?
I cannot see a use for it so might take it out for powder-coating ?

Thanks everyone

I'm not sure, never noticed on my 10. But I'd keep it.

I am guessing that plug will keep moisture from getting into the inside of the hub cavity. That rubber isolator system is not a sealed system.

Remove for the powder coating process, then replace afterwards. I looked at Ronnie's HD parts fitch and it is not shown. But it was there on both my knuckles rear wheel as well my newer Agitator rear. May be some kind of casting hole plug to keep water out of the inner wheel hub since that outer rubber compensator area can get wet.

Someone went to the trouble to design and manufacture, then install it! By all means remove it for refinishing your wheels, but I also would put it back in after.

Have it in my wheels too. I'd put it back

My thoughts also...I agree with everyone...Put it back...
(Otherwise it might void your warranty )
