Metzeler 888

I wouldn't run any other tire now that I've got over 3000 miles on them. They still look good, and yes they're easy to clean. My only beef and it's not really a beef but nonetheless it scared the hell out of me first time I heard it.
When leaning into a curve on a fairly smooth road, i heard this real high pitch "ticking" sound. I'm like WTF!
So started paying attention to it and noticed it was only happening when leaning into a curve at a decent rate of speed. Pull over at a stop about an hour later and my buddy that was riding behind me walks up and says "man your bike makes a weird noise when you lean left or right in curves".
So the next day I called Metzler and inquired about it and was told it's because of the pattern design on the outer edge of the tire and it would subside after a few hundred miles and it has.
Love them! They track well, ride very well in the rain (just rode 7 hours in the rain on Sunday), no more tar snake jumping around like with Dunlops, very quiet and comfortable tire.

Almost 6K on my 888 rear and it looks great. I got about 9,700 miles out of the previous 800. I think the 888 rear tire will make it all of next season too.
I've been enjoying 3 years of smooth tracking from my Metzlers. No pulls or wiggles from the road surface or debris at all. Still have to watch out for sand and gravel over the pavement on corners though.

I've put 3000 miles on the 888's so far this year on my '98 Road King Classic, replacing a pretty worn out OEM Dunlop and a good condition OEM Dunlop on the rear.
No complaints so far. The handling is better than the Dunlops, but I don't push the Road King hard enough that it would make any real world difference. They are good tires for their intended purpose. I've run different Metzelers on different bikes and they've all performed well, ranging from vintage standards, to sport, sport touring and cruisers. I think they make good tires.
The only issue I've had was riding in the rain, leaving an intersection and the rear end spun out on me a bit. This would most likely have happened with any tires as wet combined with oil which accumulates at intersections is never a good thing.
Good Fall riding weather expected for this weekend.

Can't recall where I got mine from unless I posted it earlier but think it was Eastern Performance with Ride-On, That seems to ring my memory bell. Would have to check my check book (where I keep all done to my bike stuff) so can't say at the time how many miles I have but so far the handling is the best I have had in all conditions. The 402's sucked. The Dunlop E III's were great at handling in all conditions but hoping for better mileage. The MC II's sucked IMO but only in tar snakes and unforeseen conditions. That all being said if the 888's don't hold up as expected I will go back to the E III's.

I know I checked in earlier in this thread saying I loved this tire. I'm back and currently have 16,500 miles on my 888s. Ive been running 45lbs in the rear and 40 in the front. The rear is showing some wear but I will easily get 20K out of this tire. The front is looking like it could go 25K with no problem.
