LRS Recurve Cracking
I have a 6" LRS Recurve and it's starting to crack. Looks like it's starting to go where the screws go through an hold it to the fairing. Anyone else have this happen. I'm pretty sure I don't have the screws too tight or anything...

Started with the center and now the sides are beginning to do it. This is one I bought a year ago before their new shields came out. I still like the way the shield performs. Good aero design but wish it wasn't "crackling" around the holes. |
Mine is just starting with the center hole for now.

Had mine on for 3 years, been off and put back on several times, no issues.... hmmm.

They are a sponsor on this Forum, and I've seen many positive comments about their service. Give them a call and I'm sure they will help you guys out.

I too have the center hole and right side hole beginning to crack. Looks like a spider web spreading. It is not over tightened either.
|
Mine did the samething. Cracked in the center hole. The crack never got any bigger in 6 months.

I dont expect them to send me a new one just because of this. I got it for around $60-$70 (can't remember exactly) with discounts. It is not getting bigger and it isn't noticeable from the front. |
Most Harley Windshield screws are normally torqued to 20 to 25 INCH lbs. Not hard to overtorque them if you are not using a torque wrench, that's the common cause.
|
I to had issues with 2 shields... not over tightened . call and there was a new one in two days... great customer service and good people to deal with....never see that with over seas companies!!!... good Product, great customer service!!
call them... the listen |
Mine broke around the right side where the slot is to mount. Didn't over tighten nor torque. Shield isn't moving but just the mere fact that it broke didn't make me a happy camper.
|
Yep, same problem here after 3 weeks. I torqued mine down with a proper torque wrench too FWIW.
I'm not badmouthing LRS and I would have bought a replacement POLYCARBONATE windshield from them if they made one in the size I wanted. They didn't so I went with Fast Aire and am very happy. The other two shields I've been using are the stock EG and stock SG shields and though they are two and three years old respectively, neither has any problems....of course both of those shields are Polycarbonate (Lexan) NOT acrylic. The bottom line (IMO) is that Acrylic is an inferior material for windshields and I won't be buying another one. YMMV, Dave |

No complaints about service here. Good product and I understand that products improve over time, hence the release of their new line.

Had the same problem with a different shield (twice). I found that the inner fairing, above the center brass insert had excess plastic that had not been cut away. The shield was being pressed against the plastic causing it to crack. Since cleaning off the excess material, my new shield has not cracked

I contacted them yesterday to let them know about my minor crack. Since I'm within their 6 month warranty, they're sending me a new one. I'm going to upgrade to the Polycarbonate for the difference in cost $25 or so. There are bigger things to worry about going wrong on these bikes but I'm very happy with LRS's customer service and the performance of the shield overall.
