warranty
I already changed all the fluids and the regular service that are listed in the manual for checks and adjustments. I really just as soon that me, myself and I work on my bike. You hear so my story's about things going wrong kinda makes you wonder if you should or not.
If you did not get a service manual try to pick one up when you can as it will help you.
ENJOY your new ride. Ride safe
I was told there is nothing magic about the 1K service. Do it yourself.
It will not void your warranty
This old wives tale will just never die.
You are under no obligation whatsoever to have a dealer do your service.
However with that said, you do have to have someone (even your self) perform all of the required aspects of each service.
Documentation is key here for any future warranty issues.
I didn't risk it and just "sucked it up, and risked" letting the stealership do it. Only for that principle. Now I do all of my own maintenance.
One thing to remember... Show a little loyalty to the stealership, whether its in their parts/accessories dept or service dept. if your bike has problems out side of warranty this will aide in the even of "good will warranty" repairs.
It sucks, but is a necessary evil while under warranty.

This Owner's Manual contains your new motorcycle limited warranty and your owner's maintenance record.
It is your responsibility as the owner to follow the maintenance schedule at the mileage intervals as specified in the Owner's Manual. All of the specified maintenance services must be performed to keep your limited warranty valid.
Some countries, states or other locations may require all regular maintenance and service work to be done by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer for your limited warranty to remain in effect. Check with your authorized Harley-Davidson dealer for local requirements.
Make an appointment with a Harley-Davidson dealer for inspection and service prior to the first 1000 mi 1600 km , and as soon as possible after any problem arises.
Bring this Owner's Manual with you when you visit your authorized Harley-Davidson dealer to have your motorcycle inspected and serviced.
Have the dealer technician sign the maintenance record in the Owner's Manual at the proper mileage interval. These records should be retained by the owner as proof of proper maintenance.
Keep receipts covering any parts, service or maintenance performed.
These records should be transferred to each subsequent owner.
Use only Harley-Davidson approved parts and accessories that have been designed, tested and approved for your model and model year motorcycle.

What section of the owners manual says this?
I never read it in my FXDC manual and I just reviewed my FLHTK and could not find it.
I miss things all the time (according to my wife)
Let me know where to find it. Thanks

I contacted my HD dealer service dept service writer. He said it would not void your warranty. He just reminded me to keep a log, receipts and mileage, parts used, part numbers. I buy 90% of my supplies at HD so there is a record on their PC's as well. Either way as long as it gets done.
