I went to HD the other day to price a stage I download and he recommended me spending more for a racetuner, said he could do alot more with it and I would be happier. I have SE mufflers, fullsac true duals and a K&N stage I air filter soon to be installed on a 2002 eg classic with fuel injection. I would like to hear the opinions of guys with more expertise in this area for I have none myself. My objective is just to be able to run all of my add ons with out any problems or damage to my engine. The dealer told me he could tune each cylinder by itself with a tuner and it will run great, with a stage I download you get what you get.. is this good info?

He forgot to mention, that while he is tuning your ride, he'd be makin more money. But if you plan on doing other mods in the future the racetuner is the way to go IMO.

 

PCIII or race tuner, not download

 

The stage one download may not tune your bike all that well since the map is made up of an average set of conditions that are fairly generic. No 2 bikes are the same. Two can have exactly the same set of mods and turn very different hp and tq readings. Go for the race tuner if that's what the dealer likes to tune - we use the PC since we're not checked out on the race tuner yet.

 

Take it from a person that has been there, I had a stage 1 air filter and a download.......5 times...Yes....5 times before they got it 1/2 right. If I could stand on a mountaintop and tell the world, Bad idea having a download. Yes it runs so,so now. It leaves alot to be desired. LOL Dan

 

Thanks for the replys, you all have helped me alot. Im going with the racetuner, That was one thing he told me was it might take more than one shot at at download to get it right and you pay for each one regardless if it works for you are not. Thanks again

 

I have the racetuner kit and the stage one. They must of got it right because my bike runs strong. I find it hard keeping the speed and RPMs down for the breakin to 500 miles. The race tuner kit is the way to go.

 

Please don't waste cash on the download , race tuner or better yet a power commander.

download is a wasts of $ since you will certainly change things later. (regardless of what you tell the wife). go with the SERT!!
