I changed the rear ones at 20,000 and the front ones at 25,000 on my Superglide. I'll do them sooner next time.

I did the back brakes this past weekend, had 20,000 on them. The front looked good so they're still on there. I down shift more than use my brakes.

Replaced frontand rear padsat 32K miles on my '00 FLHT. The front pads could have gone a little longer but the back pads were getting thin. This bike is used for touring and as demo bike for MSF ERC classes (lots of max braking quick stops, etc.)

At 18.8K, front and rear padslook good on the '06 Ultra. This bikeis my every day transportation. I use both front andrear brakesto stop and don't race/hotrod the bike.

rule of thumb...two sets of front pads to one rear or every two tires.
I get 10 -15K from the front and 25-30K from the rear. I try to change them whenever i have to pull the front or rear tires. I porbably can get more milage if i wait until they are actually worn out, but it is much easier to replace when i already have the wheel off vs. making a special effort to remove everyting.

I replaced my rear at 15,023 when I changed the rear tire for the first time. There was still life in them, but I had the rear wheel off anyway. Being a new rider I feel I was using more rear brake than necessary especially when riding solo. I've adjusted my riding style a bit, we'll see how it goes. Still got the original fronts on at 30,000 miles. I checked them at 26,000, plenty of pad material left. 2 sets of fronts to one rear? First time I've heard that one. I'd say your riding style has a lot to do with it. Agressive oreasy rider, solo ortwo-up, etc.

Much depends on how many highway miles you rack-up. I replaced all of mine at 27K......still had some material left on the rear pads, very little on the fronts.....and they were all stock pads.

Depending on how you brake an how often and hard.
I've seen fronts with 30k plus on and be ok.
But I've seen rear with 7k and need changed.

Best thing to do is inspect regularly.

Highway or city stop and go? makes a big difference, Highway - 15k to 30k, stop and go 5k to 20k, best thing is to check the pads.

ORIGINAL: Bigredone

I uses both front and rear brakes on all stops. What mileage can be expected from the pads?
I installed EBC Kevlar pads and floating rotors on the front and EBC pads on the rear of my '96 RK when I purchased it, and at 106k miles these same pads and rotors were still on the bike. The pads had 1/3 of their surface remaining and I estimate they'd last 150k miles. They were excellent performers and better than stock, left very little dust, and never squealed. The rotors showed no significant wear in that nine-year time period. I traded that bike in and will probably install these pads (different part number) on my new SG soon. I've already installed HD floaters for the front, so I won't be buying EBC rotors this time around.

BTW, Drag Specialties sells the pads and rotors, and the pads are very reasonably priced. The rotors are expensive, ~$175 ea. IIRC. I have a set (2 pairs) of new front pads for the front of older HD's (up to and including '98) if anyone wants them ($25/pair).
