Start Up Oil Pressure
My bike is a 2002 95" FLHTCUI with oil cooler installed. I've noticed lately, that when I start the bike after it has been sitting for two days, or more, it takes what seems to be 4-5 seconds for the oil pressure to rise on start-up. I don't recall it taking that long before. However, I must add that I didn't make a habit of watching the oil pressure guage on all cold starts in the past. I do check all guages before shifting into gear on cold starts. I'm curious as to whether, or not, there is a check valve that may be defective.....????
The bike has just short of 40K on it, and uses no oil between changes. Thanks in advance for any comments. |
RE: Start Up Oil Pressure
I have a 2000 Electra Glide Classic. I have noticed that I don't have any oil pressure until I am riding. When I stop at lights, the oil pressure is not there. I am learning about my bike and would be interested on any information provided to your ?.

RE: Start Up Oil Pressure
Harleys as a rule do not have a great deal of pressure warmed up at idle. You could have 2- 3 lbs positive pressure at idle and it would do the trick as long as there is flow, you're OK. The gauges don't tell a very accurate story either so do not loose any sleep over it. On the older bikes , it was normal to see no pressure on the gauge when at idle. There's still oil circulating in there though.;)
