Should I have gone further?

I pulled the outer primary cover off yesterday to investigate a knocking noise that I thought could be a loose compensator nut. The nut appeared to be tight and I tried to wiggle the rotor cover but no movement was there and the chain was to specs.

The noise is still there - is it possible the comp nut felt tight but maybe its not to torque specs? Should I have loosened it and re-torqued it? Or, is it likely if it felt tight and no wiggle then it is fine?

if the nut works loose, you will know it in operation, by a huge amount of slop in the drivetrain at low speeds.

what you describe sounds different ?

Ok Thanks - I don't have the slop in the drivetrain so I'm probably good. As suggested by someone, I am gonna get my hands on a stethoscope and try to pinpoint this noise.

a screwdriver will work, put the handle at the bone just in front of the ear, above the jaw.
the other end at suspect area.

some masking tape on the tip

or stop by, I'll lend you my stethoscope.
