Default Who beats on their 110+hp bagger?

I'm thinking of doing the heads on my EG, bumping over 110hp. I'm worried about the crank??? I don't do burn outs or stoppies but I do use the push to pass and downshift/rev in the twisties. I do hit the throttle stop and rev limit (still at 5500) many rides. Not real unhappy with the 99hp/109tq now but more is better? Or is it just building a bomb?

Well 5500 rpm isn't really that much of a stress on a motor. If you are producing 99/109tq with this limiter that isn't bad. I looked at your garage and the dyno sheet you have posted really looks good. It hits 100 ft/lbs at 2500 rpm and climbs to close to max before 3000 rpm. HP is the combination of torque and rpm. Heads might help you with a little more torque and allow you to hold it longer which will lead to more hp, but how often do you go to redline?
To answer your original question, is your crank in good shape? If so you probably won't do damage to your engine because of head work. If it really worries you have your crank trued, welded, balanced, and plugged. Then, no worries!

Why would you build a 110hp bike and not beat on it?

If you are going over 100 HP, I think you need Timken bearings on the crank. Talk to Darkhorse.

Thanks. The crank is good @.002. Really don't want to pull the crank. Option is not doing it if the crank is gonna be a problem? I know there are lots of folks running 110+ on the stock crank (the 120 still has pressed crank??) but I've also heard of/seen scissored ones. Guess its really just a crap shoot??? If past experience counts more motors blow than stay together with me riding them so I'm not sure if "I'm feeling lucky"?

100hp has kind'a been my tipping point too. Less worried about the timken than the press together crank and weak rods. I really don't want to pull the crank! But I know there are lots of guys pushing over 110 on the stock crank without problems. Not sure I'd be one of them?
