Question

I can see no benefit of changing your oil at 500 miles.

I can. As all 'new' parts wear in, tiny fragments of metal, plastic, and even possibly machining debris are washed out. I always change oil on a new bike, car, truck, whatever at 500 and again at 1000 miles. Then I use the schedule that suits the type of oil I have chosen to use. It may be overkill, or it might add thousands of miles to an engine. No way to say for sure, so I'm going to err to the side of caution.

I have been running Amsoil 20W-50 full synthetic since new. And I swear my bike runs better now then when it was new.

Do whatever you want, but you've got some incorrect information. Neither your Castrol or Valvoline is "Full Synthetic". There are ONLY 3 true Full Synthetics ............. Mobil 1, Amsoil and Red Line. All, and I repeat, All other brands that state they are synthetic have some percentage of dino in them!

At 1000 miles I am on my 3rd oil and filter change.

90+% of break-in happens by 30 miles.

Therefore on a brand new engine or one of my complete overhauls I change oil and filter at 30 miles.

Then it is changed at 300 and then again at 1000. Then every 2500 miles.

It may be labeled by some as overkill, but my engines run quiet, strong and long.

I agree.
Changed mine at the 1K mark.
22,000 miles later,no issues or oil usage.

Wow...as much as you like to change oil, want to come winterize my bikes?

Don't let these guys beat you up about it. They're gonna trade their bike in within a couple of years. In the mean time, they will complain about noises and such. Never really understanding why. If you spend your money on it, and want to keep it 'new' for a long time to come, that's the way to do it.

Did your bike come with an owner's manual? Does it give the spec that oil must meet? Mine does. Do either or both of the oils you have on hand meet that spec? You can answer the question yourself.
