Default Bikes with Harley oil coolers

Do you guys with Harley oil coolers either added or those that came stock on their bike, end up adding more than the recommended 3.5 quarts of oil during a change? This will be my first change since adding the cooler and initially when I added the cooler, it took some additional oil to top off the tank. However, now I'm thinking that short of pulling the cooler and hoses the cooler will remain filled with oil during the change and I'll still need only the standard 3.5 quarts? I pulled the drain plugs on all 3 holes while oil was nice and hot when I came home from my last ride of the season Last Saturday. I need to pick up oil on the way home tonight and will only need to pick up 3 quarts if this is the case. I have 1/2 Quart left from previous change. And Yes, I realize that the oil left in the cooler is old. So is the bit left in the cases etc. Thanks

No additional oil during change. As you guessed, the oil seems to stay in the cooler and hoses.

My '03 I added a cooler when new, never changed the oil in the cooler

My 13 came with an oil cooler and getting ready for 2nd oil change and I will not be changing the oil in the cooler

Use Dino oil in both and fill as necessary to get level up between marks on dipstick

I always pull the hoses at the cooler adapter and hit the upper port hose with a little low pressure air to blow all the old oil out the lower port. Not really necessary but I like to clean out the 8-10 oz of dirty oil in the heat exchanger and lines, there is already a good bit of residual dirty oil left in the engine, then 4 qts puts me right at full.

I leave the drain plug out, turn on the key and turn off the ignition (so it wont start) Then crank it about 3 rotations, it will pump most of that old oil out of the system.

I think the oil colors came stock on the 103 models in 2012.... maye CVOs and stuff before then, but not sure - I know the 103s and 110s have been options or a while, but when the bikes started coming with them in '12, i think is when the oil color was standard.

Not sure about that procedure - mine won't spin when the handle bar switch is OFF - if thats what you meant ...

My oil cooler is left alone during oil changes - lets the old oil more easily become friends with the new oil !
