Default Rear Tire Wear and Cost

2012 FLHTK with original HD Dunlop thin whitewall 180/65B16 at 9,323 miles the tread depth was 2/32. Replaced with OEM Dunlop black wall $320 installed at HD dealership. How does that wear and replacement price compare to others?

I'm at 12,500 on my original FLHTCU and still a little to go until it reaches the wear bar. I'll be replacing mine in a month or two with the Metzeler 888 tire.

I have an o9 flh and I usually get about 12000 miles out of the rearI use a gauge but I also check those wear bars now if down to wear bars going in the winter I will replace the tire but springtime I'll just keep an eye on it and save up my money but I test the tire and see how well it does stop but I'm one of those that use the front brake a lot or both breaks I think the tire itself around here in South Bend is like 260 bucks so 320 is probably I feel not out of line for a new tire keep in mind though probably tell you you need brakes back there but I prefer to do that myself.
no I just called a shop here a little east of me and they have the Dunlap Elite two hundred and nine dollars and $52 for balancing and installing on the bike hope this helps apparently the Dunlap elite can be sold by anyone the original Harley tire the Dunlap can only be sold by a dealer so Dunlap went ahead and made a comparable tire that can be sold at independent dealers

Friend of mine just replaced the Metzeler on the rear at just over 12K, he and I both got around 18K from original Dunlops. He went back to Dunlop. Dunlop's American Elite was designed to compete with Harley's Dunlop at about $100 less. Been hearing it lasts as long as the stock Dunlop. My dealer charges $50 to change the tire when I take it off the bike.

Got mine replaced couple months ago on my 2011 SG, got it at Chaparral Racing for $180 shipped, and $50 installed by my indy.Went with Dunlops American Elite, thats my second tire and it runs very well.Dont forget to check your bearing while your at it, when indy removed the rear tire BBs fell out of its race.Cant believe how bad they were, coulda had a bad day.

2011 FLHTK. Got 12.7 on the original tire, 11.5 on the second stock Dunlop. Put on Michelin Commander II and have about 7.5K on them. Can't find what the original tread depth is but measurements along the side of the tread is 9/32nds. I am around 7/32nds so expect another 10-12K on the rear. More likely on the front. Keep the pressure up to extend tread life and prevent cupping.

Normally get around 20K out of the front and 10-12K out of the back tires on my 03 EG (stock Dunlops). Last rear tire was $250 (tire bought and installed through indy). Hearing good stuff about Metzeler 888's so I'm thinking about switching next round.

The 09 and up are getting 2-3 times the wear of the pre 09's. Many of friends have 13K plus on rears and won't need to replace for some time yet. I have 10K on my 2012 and have 6/32 left. I anticipate 13-15K where as my 07's I couldn't get more than 5500 out of them.

Got about 11,000 out of my stock rear before road hazard damaged it. It probably had another 4,000 miles tread left on it. Don't remember what it cost to replace but it was approx retail - $50 discount plus an hour labor. My issue with American Elites was they did not match the exist front when not replacing both. I think they make a thin white sidewall now to match stock tires.
