In Tank Fuel Filter Question

In Tank Fuel Filter Question
I have a question for those who have put over 25K miles on their bike. When do you change the in tank fuel filter? The maintenance schedule for my '07 FLHTC lists arbitrarily changing the fuel filter at 25K miles. I have yet to meet a Harley rider who completes that task per the schedule. If not at 25K, then when is it really needed? I'm coming up on 35K miles and have seen no reason to replace the filter yet.

Just like any other maintenance item your wise to replace at specified intervals or your not maintaining your vehicle properly. If the filter reaches its saturation point with debris your fuel wont pump and Murphy will poke his nasty head out at a most inconvenient time and it will strand you....its your choice to take your chances.

When I got my 2006 FLHX as a wreck, it had not had its original fuel filter changed...so I went ahead & did it...the old one appeared perfectly clean, but who really knows, ya know. I think, not certain, that the service interval on my year & model was 50,000 miles. I agree with the others, you're probably just fine, but who knows for certain? It's a pretty expensive part, about $80, and its kind of a pain to replace. If you're a bike owner that takes his bike to the dealership to have slip on mufflers installed, pass on this chore. If you accustomed to rebuilding engines, easy peasy!
