Needless to say if it's in the sidewall don't do it.

I used this on my '6 Ultra rear tire, put over a thousand miles on the tire and never lost a pound of air. Maybe me but for around town use I'd be O.K. with a plug, if I was going on a road trip I'd change the tire out...Good Luck!

It's all about preference .... for me, the couple of hundred dollars is not worth the risk of my wife's life, not to mention my own.

If on the road, a plug kit to get you home ... I have a Stop N' Go kit with the CO2 gas canisters .... once home, it's a new tire for me.

If not on the road, it's simply a new tire for me.

This question is raised quite often in motorcycling and you will get both opinions a million times with this topic. Simply do what is best for you and makes you feel the most comfortable.

My suggestion, based upon fellow riders, reading forums, etc. is:

Putting in a plug is OK for short duration emergency type of situation. You should not do it for a long term fix like you would do with a car tire.

so put in a plug for the short term, order a new tire to install and replace you tire.

My vote since you have thread left on the tire....put in a mushroom plug, then add a inner tube and ride to your hearts content.....think about this, how many if us ride with the spoke rims which are not sealed and use a inner tube....so what is the difference ? I don't think that a screw "screws" up the integrity of the tire........Ok piece of mind, but the tire will last.

With 2-3" of rubber on the road I would use a plug only for a ride to the tire store. As for as the sealant in a can, forget about it. If the plug comes out and the sealant leaks out it will be like riding on slippery snot. Not good in a curve.

Would this not be under warranty? I know I have tire & wheel coverage.

Default Mushroom plug

Never heard of a properly seated mushroom plug backing out. You may slowly loose air, but do not see a sudden blow out happening. I have used them twice. Still had lots of tread on each tire and in both cases ran the tires until I got close to the normal replacement time. If your puncture is at an extreme angle and not normal to the tire surface, then I would only use a plug long enough to get to a dealer. Do what your comfortable with. I keep a 12v pump and plug kit on the bike at all times.

I see many say that they would plug it for local riding only but replace it for road trips. Is a tire problem less severe close to home than it is away from home? I ride just as fast on local interstates as on distant ones.

I had the tire and wheel warranty and never had to use it in 55,000 miles. For some reason they won't renew it even though it was pure profit since I never used it.

I tried to use that set on an SUV tire the other day and couldn't get the nozzle to insert into the tire all the way. After trying for half an hour, I removed the wheel from the SUV and brought it to the tire shop. $9.50 and 20 minutes later, the wheel was back on the SUV and the tire plugged. Hopefully the plugs and set-up work better on a M/C tire.
