Wonder if any of you guys have some ideas for me? I am only 5'7" I have a 2013 Road king. The handle bars sit way to far forward for me. Can I just roll the bars back? Or do I have to replace them with somthing else? If so what? Love the look of apes, but can't go to tall be cause of my limited reach. Thanks in Advance
I'm the same height and have 12.5" Apes on mine...The bars give a lot more pull back and fit me great...I did it without any cable changes too...
Yes. I have the same problem with most Harleys I test ride, as if a gorilla sets them up at the factory! Don't go blowing out on new bars until you've tried to get the best out of your own.
I found it took me several attempts with my own bike. One of the challenges is that once the bars are free to move, they may do so suddenly, so you don't recall where they were! If you take a photo of the bike sideways on (or with you seated on it) you can more easily compare before and after. Look to get them so your shoulders are relaxed and not hunched.
Trick of the day: use one of those china crayons and draw a line across the riser and the bars so you know where you started. After you are done it cleans right off with just a paper towel.
My wife is 5'6" and ended up with the heritage style bars on her RKC and she loves them. As others have said it's all going to come down to you and how you want your bike set up.
Thanks for all the Help. I think I am going to go with Heritage style bars. My first Harley was a Heritage and I liked the bars on it. Glad to hear I don't have to change the cables. I am kind of on a buget. I'll post pics when I get done.

Or, if you want to save the hassle of all that, mark the riser and the bars with a sharpie. It'll not only give you a reference for putting them back the way they were, it'll give you a reference on how much you've moved them in either direction.

The "heritage style" bars for the Road King are NOT the same as any late model Heritage. Depending on the age of your last bike, they may be similar, or very different. The current (since around 2009 I think) Heritage has mini apes on them that are much different. And, they would have to be cut to use the throttle by wire. The "heritage style" bars do not have to be cut, and stock cables will fit also.
The 2014 RK comes with "heritage style" bars now. Make a trip down to the dealer and see and feel the difference between them and the actual bars on a Heritage.
Just a heads up in case you didn't know the difference.

That is an awesome thread.
Ok I did a search on Ebay and low and behold a dude had a 56902-08 Heritage style bar for sale with all the wiring for $48 shipped. I couldn't pass that up. Even if I find I want to change later on I'm not going to be in them for much. I never find what I want on Ebay so I am feeling lucky.

You an get a set of FLD (switchback) risers, they will bring bars back 1 inch and up 3/4". you'll also need a Streetslammer cover. you could add a set of www.khromewerks.com mini apes or their fat 12.5" apes on top of the risers also...............
