Default Sock or No Sock ?

I know this may be a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway...

Here in the south this time of year we get pollen pretty bad.. you know that awful yellow crap that goes everywhere and makes everyone sick. I just got a heavy breather on my bike and I was wondering if it is best to put the sock on to keep that crap from getting in the filter as I ride ?

Feel ya bro. Black paint and pollen and you always have something to clean....I just leave the sock on all the time.

The sock is easier to wash than the filter

Helps keep the bugs out of the filter also... Well worth the $ for me.

I had a big sucker on my 13 and never covered it up my main reason for an open filters is because I like the exposed red filter.

Kevin hardly ever uses his rain sock (with our 587 system). It does not hurt anything to have it on there, so if you are more comfortable with it on there, have at it!!!

P.S. Pollen in the south is like ice in Antarctica.... just comes with the territory

I'd never take mine off because of that and rain. I just wish it'd stop rotating around on my filter though. I don't know if it's vibration or wind or both.

On my way to Daytona a few weeks ago my Heavy Breather filter popped off on a hard down shift and got squashed like a pancake in the middle of I4. Since I was not running the sock at the time I borrowed my daughters hair tie and covered the snorkel with the sock. I soldiered on to the nearest dealer and replaced the filter for a hundred bucks. The sock melted in the stop and go traffic but kept out the bugs for most of the trip. I keep a sock on board now and use it if needed but usually keep it on to hide the red since my bike is blue. PJ makes a filter oil that is Blue so when I clean the filter and reoil the sock gets stowed. The Screamin Eagle logo is cool though
