The best sounding slip ons are CFR's...loud but rich sound, not harsh..
As an owner of CFR's (and on a 2012 with the cat still in place), I agree wholeheartedly here. A nice deep, rich rumble and I can still hear the radio at cruising speeds (set on the same volume as I did my stock). When you get on the throttle, they bark.
That having been said, definitely not a cheap option, and from everything I read, not recommended as a slip-on without a tuner. And if you are tuning, why not change the Air Cleaner at that time as well... Not for the faint of wallet for sure.
I think a pipe that does not open up to a larger size is louder. Same size diameter from the header pipe to the tip IMO. Once they open up at the slip on the get deeper. Get a straight pipe or add a fish tail tip. No baffles of course and you will rattle your fillings.
Yeah, any slip ons become louder if you get rid of the "kitty". I paid like $550 for V&H monster rounds and for sound they suck. I bought a decatted head pipe this spring so that should wake it up....(it better!)
Yes, they are ridiculously loud. Here's two videos I put up a while back. In both these videos my bikes have straight through exhaust.
I also have straight through slip on fish tails on my 2013 Road King, but haven't yet posted a clip. The sound is very similar, but because I kept the cat intact......just quieter.
I have fish tails, they sound exactly Like Bikerlaws '96 Dyna, and I love them! I dont think they are obnoxiously loud. When behind the bike yes, it can be noticeable different then when im on the bike. They may be what you want?
My buddy just put Thunderheaders on with a V&H Power Dual and it has a nice rumble to it. Sounds way louder than my SE Street Cannons without the kitty.
