Tail of the Dragon Report
Rode the Tail of the Dragon on Friday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded. It wasn't that hard to ride safely for an experienced rider. It was fun in a "been there, done that, got the T-shirt" sort of way. But as others have said, my buddies and I preferred some of the other roads in the area over the Dragon. We particularly liked Moonshiner 28 along Fontana Lake and the Little Tennessee River. Beautiful road in the spring with flowering trees and wildflowers along the river.
I liked these pictures because they show the curves and undulating nature of the Dragon. The last one shows one of my buddies on the curve in front of me.

Glad you enjoyed yourself Kurt.
I know what you mean about the tee shirt. It's only a couple of hours from the house and I've been 3 times (actually 3 too many.)
I yawn everytime it's brought up now...all marketing hype.
The GOOD riding is all around EXCEPT that. Everyone's gotta go see for themselves though...
Cool pics.

Also check out the Cherohala Skyway if you haven't already. Long sweeping curves with views and a really cool summer ride at altitude. It's a much more relaxed ride than the tight dragon.
Got my dragon t-shirt in 1975 and have ridden it a gazillion times since then. Believe it or not, the speed limit was 55 back then. Now I kind of avoid it in the same way Las Vegas locals avoid the strip.

There are so many other better stretches of road that are, among other things, longer than 11 miles. But, as many have said, I got the t-shirt. Have ridden that little stretch of road about half dozen times (live in Maine so more than a couple hours away) - the last time because my wife was with me and she was never there before.
a parting shot...

Love 28, Little River, and the Cherohala.
In addition to those, check out:
1. 28 South all the way down to Franklin
2. Hwy 64 East from Franklin to Brevard.
3. 215 North (Near Brevard on 64) up to the Blue ridge.
4. Then Blue Ridge back to where you started that day. Cherokee/Bryson usually for us.
Makes a nice little day trip
