Won't start in gear

On an '07 Streetglide, the bike used to start in 1st gear as long as I had the clutch engaged. I recently adjusted the clutch pull and changed to an aftermarket shift linkage bar. Now the bike will only start in neutral. Any ideas as to why this has happened?

Something you did i would say,:D only thing preventing it would be the start interface switch on the clutch lever(new on the 07). I found out only a lever for a 07 will depress the switch, did you change levers? Even the ones advertised as fitting, they will fit, but they will not work the switch, so neutral is the only place it will start.

I had the same problem on my '07 UC after I installed Kuryakyn Trigger levers that were advertised as fitting '95 and newer. later found out that Kury had levers for specifically '07s. difference is a little tab on the lever that pushes against the interface switch located in the switch housing. if you didn't change levers, i'd check to see if the lever is actually pushing against the switch. you can see if if you closely look between the lever and the housing.

YES, I put on black after market levers...Thank you, I thought I was going nuts. Could not figure out why an adjustment to the clutch would make this happen. Guess I better not stall the bike on a busy road. LOL

Actually, there is a "fix" fer it...hard lesson learned durin' the decade of ridin' Goldwings. If you'll take ya a dab of JB Weld an' build up a "tit" on the lever (use yer old lever as a guide), you'll be able ta recreate the same contact point. Takes a little effort, but it's worth it!

Yep, a lot of guys will find this out the hard way. Just a note, we painted the stock levers black with a good epoxy paint, and they look as good as the harley ones and still do.
