I totally agree with you. I may be a newer member on here and i get a lot of smack on here from people because of that I think, but I'm a wrench head and a plant mechanic by trade for a world renowned company. I know what I'm talking about. Oil breaks down big time in heat and I think some people forget Harleys are air cooled.

I follow the service manual recommendations. Oil &. Clutch adjustment every 5K, primary every 10K, Trans every. 20K. Fork oil & fuel filter every 50K.
I do the same with my 4 wheel vehicles, anything more they mfg recommended service intervals is overkill.
I have 54,000 miles on the bike, and it still runs great.

Though truth be told, I can't sleep if I don't change the primary fluid every 5k and the transmission every 10k. I should probably send the next batch out for testing to ease my mind, 'cause that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the oil is fine for 5k.

No matter what you think, someone here will disagree with it....I ignore them.

Some change oil every 1000-3000 miles, some change every 5000-10000 miles. If you got 20000 miles on you bike and over 4 oil changes, you wasting money. The injected engines are better precised designed and can tolerate more heat and abuse. If you're getting a lot of metal and shaving when you change oil, changing oil will not stop the wear. You got an ongoing problem......
