I searched before posting and then it told me me the forum was only for the Rushmore crowd. Yawn.

Okay- well i wanted to use the dang

HD ride planner to map out my ride.

And I clicked " I know were I am going " and I begin to establish my route
I want to go from Spokane to Brewster and over on HWY 20 to Oak Harbor- down to Astoria and Florence Oregon, over to Madras via Mckenzie Pass and over East to Someplace near Boise, ID., and then back north through Riggins to CDA- to Spokane.

- In the process, somehow the planner tries to make your route circle back to your origin - WHY?

I can't delete the route it seems make i.e., I see it loop back to Spokane, and I don't want that to be plotted.

I just want to plan my own ride- plot my way points and map out the whole ride. :-( maybe i am doing something wrong.
Anyone use this? Anyone have a tip, or what am I missing?

I have used it but did not pick the I know option. I just put my start and finish then added waypoints. It had a option to reverse route if wanted.

I use it all the time and love it. Put it your start address and then the address you want to go to, you can click on the route they give you and drag it to the roads you want to be on. The more waypoints you make the better it keeps you on the roads you want to use. I am not familiar with what you are trying to put it, is it a one day trip? Overnight trip? If it is a one day pick a place that is half way use that as the second address. Plan the trip by dragging the route to where you want to go. Then put your finish address in and do the same thing.

I just used Ride Planner to create your ride and it worked slick. Don't know if it made any difference but I chose Create Ride rather than I know where the hell I'm going. Just put in Spokane and Spokane in the start and finish and then add your waypoints one at a time.

BW, if you're in Madras for dinner and are in the mood for Mexican I recommend El Rio on US 97....this is NOT that chain of Mexican places that are just fair we see in the NW. Their mole enchilada plate was amazing...good margs, too.

I've used it a few times; not very intuitive at all. I found it frustrating because I thought I could fire it right up and plan my rides; not happening. I think you've got to play with it a lot to get comfortable with it.

It is better than the piece of crap that Garmin puts out; Base Camp I think they call it. Everyone says Garmin's old version was MUCH better. I tried Base Camp first and spent at least 2-3 hrs trying to learn the program and got almost nowhere with it.

My suggestion would be to practice by planning simple routes around your area, just to practice using the program. Good Luck!

Used it to route my rides to 48 states and never experienced what you say is happening. Put in starting point, end point, drag route onto roads I want, save, export to Zumo RT 660, import on 660, and go.

As others have said, Ride Planner works well...when it's working. Create a ride, then plug in your waypoints, then your end point. just like you described in your original post.

My go-to planner is the Tyre to Travel site which just works a little better for me.
