Default 50K mile engine rebuild?

Wanting some advice from those in the know. My buddy has a 2006 street glide that starts and runs great, no issues. He changes the oil and fluids at the recommended intervals and doesn't have any issues with the bike. He mentioned to me the other day that he has been told by two different people lately, one being someone at the local Harley dealer that Harley recommends an engine rebuild at 50K miles. We both thought it was crazy talk, so just wondering what everyone thinks about that?

I never heard of a recommended engine rebuild interval. Unless there is something wrong that needs corrected, sounds like your buddy needs a new Harley dealer.

I'm guessing they may have been referring to a freshen-up. Know a bunch that freshen the top end at 50k and the bottom end at 100k. Not saying one has to, but it is common for some.

Old BS. Shouldn't have any problem getting to 100k. The engine will tell you when its time to rebuild. For every good Harley mechanics there are 50 that don't know ****.

I have 31,000 miles on my Ultra and can't imagine needing a rebuild at 50,000. There are a lot of people on this forum that make it a 100,000 miles with just regular maintenance.

My 07 made it to 130k before a full bottom up rebuild but I think it should have lasted to 150k but I had some bad luck. No worries, just ride.

My 08 Wide Glide made it to 120K before it (barely) failed a leak down and compression test, got new jugs and pistons and cleaned up the heads under warranty. 145K now and the bottom end hasn't been touched. Crank has .002" runout.

My 11 Limited scissored the crank at 60K, it's getting a 107" build now by T-Man Performance.

I wouldn't rebuild anything until it was justified by a failure or burning excessive amouts of oil - unless you just have the need for more power.

If I rebuilt the engines at 50K, I'd be doing one every two years or less.
