How many miles are on the speedo? I have a 2010 classic, is my mileage stored in the ecm or will the mileage on the new gauges show?

On the touring models...the odometer mileage is stored in the speedo gauge...not the ecm...so if your bike has just say 2,500 miles on it...and you plug in a speedo with say 2,750...it will read the speedo gauge of 2,750...not your 2,500...so depending on your mileage...if close no biggie...hope this helped...thx for asking

 

mileage can be reinstated by the dealer but you have to bring your bike in, bring in the new speedo and they'll read your old mileage, send out the guage to HD and get it set. Problem these days is finding a dealer that will do it for you on a used speedo.

 

Maybe I'm missing something, but not sure if that's true about sending to HD for reset. I had my stock speedo unit swapped out at the dealer with a different style and they used a jumper to download the mileage. I left 30 min later with the new speedo reading correct/current mileage.

I would like to know because I need to sell my original stock gauge.

 

they may have changed the way they do things now as my swap out was done about 1-1/2 years ago. They had to verify my mileage, then order the new speedo from HD with the mileage re-instated on it. Took about 1 week to get the new speedo
