Default Brake Lights Stuck On???

Anyone with a '14 or up have their brake lights stick on?

Mine did it yesterday. Me and wifey left home, ran some errands in town then headed out to Savannah. Got out on the open road and went to set cruise, wouldn't set. About 30 seconds later the red electrical system LED came on in the dash.

My mind automatically headed to the brake lights so we stopped in a parking lot and sure enough, brake lights were stuck on. I fiddled with lever and pedal for a few then said screw it, it's under warranty. Plus I'm headed to NH for work on Monday.

Since we were already headed to Savannah and that's where my dealer is at, I called service and told them to expect me. Followed by a call to my son to pick us up.

I know the service manager but the first thing he said was "who put the bars on, they might have broken the brake light switch". I stopped him right there and informed him everything on this TG had been on there and working properly for almost 2 years. My work was NOT the problem.

They will get to it sometime this week, just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue before. Mine did have a recall for the rear brake light switch shortly after purchase.

Anyone seen this? I will post the results when I pick it up next Friday, (hopefully it will be fixed).

Common problem. Front brake has a micro switch in the controls that can either become worn, break or was not properly installed which caused it to wear or break. Be prepared to be told it is not covered under warranty because your bars are not factory or were not installed by the dealer.

One of the brake switches (front or rear) probably failed...let us know what the dealer finds.

Yea, I'm well aware one of them failed. with work I just didn't have time to figure it out myself.

Also aware the dealer may try to screw me, but Savannah is quite good about dealing with their customers. Never had any issue before but there's a first time for everything...

I found out from local indie shop that it is a very common issue with late model HD. The rear brake switch is a hydraulic pressure switch, and prone to failure. Pull one of the the spade link terminals with a pair of needle nose pliers and see if the brake lights go out (probably will). Also should be able to pin it down with the diagnostic code to verify a stuck switch. I don't remember which code it was, but it was dead on...

This is a warranty fix from HD...

Happened on 3 of my Harleys over the years. ALWAYS was my fault when changing bars or controls. I screwed up the switch in the break lever

Happened on my 2014 tri glide. Rear brake switch went bad. I heard they had a problem with them and came out with one that is supposed to be better.

Mine has already had the rear replaced on recall one time.

The interesting thing is there were No Codes! When this happened I happened to have my PV2 plugged in and checked the codes before switching it off. No codes. So I switched the TG back on in diagnostic mode (?) and the DTC radio screen showed no codes also.

However, about 8 to 10 minutes after starting the Electrical System indicator would come on and stay on until switched off.

Just weird in my opinion. Wish I had time to troubleshoot myself, just for my own education if nothing more.

I just had my front brake lever switch replaced under warranty.

I was having the opposite problem, it would not light up the brake lights when the lever was pulled.

Before replacing it they futzed with it, trying to get it to work, finally they broke down and just replaced it.

FYI to all following.....

Just picked her up from the dealer, Rear Brake Light Switch failure.

According to dealer records, I took her in on December 23, 2014 for rear brake light switch recall. At that time the factory switch was replaced with a different part number.

That's the one that failed this time. Replaced with same part number.

Wonder how long this one will last???
