Default Pinging Issues

Need a little help, suggestions or advise from those who have dealt with Pinging issues. Recently, I was on a 400 mile run, one up and no additional weight doing 65-80 mph on the freeway in 6th gear while trying to keep the RPM's around 3k and above so not to lug the engine. When I roll on the throttle I am getting ping.
I use only 91 octane fuel and have tried different fuel additives with no success. Also, have had Harley Service adjust the Map in past service, but still getting this ping issue.
I have a 11TG, bike has V&H Power Duals, SE Super tuner & 255 Cams.
Any input would greatly be a appreciated, need to get it in for 20K service soon.

Interesting, I usually try to run at about 3500 rpm. Seems to be the sweet spot for engine speed. I don't know what HD recommends. MPG would be better at 3,000 I'm sure.

It's the tune, could be to much timing or not enough fuel in the areas it is pinging in. I ran some SE255's in a 2009 and 2010 Triglide, they were ok, just had to get the tune right and have good fuel.

find a reputable tuner (most dealerships aren't) a proper tune will get u running right. a good dyno operator will talk to u about any concerns u have b4 hand and ask about what u want to accomplish, milage, performance.

Pinging or detonation is bad news. Your culprit is more than likely an advanced timing problem. I'd get to a dealer or tuner with a dyno and address the issue. Have you tried running ethanol free fuel? Who did your tune when you went to stage 2? If you haven't had it tuned that is definitely your problem. Pinging, or incorrect detonation is a condition whereby the combustion explosion is not happening at the correct time during the four stroke cycle. I've read stories where pinging was no big deal, but I've also read stories where it became a catastrophic failure.

Octane is one thing, but the amount of ethanol could be the culprit. In Michigan it is easy to find ethanol free premium (91+), I have found riding out west that it is not so easy. They list 10% ethanol at the pump, but I would guess there is much more present.

Even tho this thread is from last year,,,, There is an app for that ! It is called "Pure Gas" for your phone. I have an android, don't know about IPhone.
It will look for pure gas at your location.

If the pinging is Gas related?...
Then it will ping more with Non-Entanol gas...[So-called pure gas]

Mine dies it too. 255 cams and SEPST...it was tuned in Oregon on 92 Octane. Now in commyfirnua with 91 if it is hot, and under load, I get some ping. 1oz of Octane boost per gallon of gas helps, as well it seems to like Shell gas best.
