Folks my rear fender (front side) are really starting to take a beating. Between road debris and my wife scraping them when she gets on, I am getting worried the paint is going to get roached soon. I am wondering if the leather bras are worth getting or go with a clear plastic? My concern is wether the leather bras will rub the paint raw? The price point on them is very reasonable (I think) @ $99. Also how easy are they to install (leather bras)?

Hey Raxus, exactly why I bought and installed the leather bras on my 2012 Glide. As far as installing, its a piece of cake Take off the tail light, the front of the leather just clips on, its really easy. Haven't noticed any rubbing at this point and have had them installed for about 4 months now.
I bought my glide used, and it had some scratches on the top of the fenders from exactly what you experienced. So the leathers really helped in the appearance.
In short, they get my vote.

I've never gotten around to any protection. I am going to try the 3M spray. But, I personally don't care for the look of the leather covers. Maybe if mine become intolerably chipped at some time, then ill cover them.

 

There was another thread on this subject a couple months ago. Even though I don't really mind the look of the Harley fender bras I passed on them because they just didn't snap on and off. I wanted to be able to remove them quickly when cleaning the bike and then put them back on. I have two large static cling decals on now that are doing a pretty good job of protecting the paint.


At the dealership today and they had 3 or 4 new (2017) TG sitting outside. Three of them had the fender bras on them. Again, I thought they looked "okay" on the black one. I will probably reconsider and pick up a set.

 

We purchased the Harley Davidson fender guard set. Obvious it does not cover as much as the fender braw, but after having a braw on a car long ago, I have never been a fan of them. The braw can trap dust / dirt under them and with micro motion caused by wind erode away at paint.
We have had these on since new, and have been happy. They help with foot scuffs from the wife's boots. Most of the other damage that happens is above the guard such as chips from on coming traffic kicking up debris. Especially bad when the they road has been oiled and chipped.

It have the fender bras on right now until I get the Xpel kit installed. A car dealership installs the Xpel on high end cars, Lambo's, Porches etc. I haven't seen them but willing to go and have them install on rear fenders, inside the fenders( where the saddlebags go) and the fairing. I'll report back what, when, where and cost....having the tricked pinstriped first, next week...then have the film protection applied....the. I'll put my bras up for sale.
