2017 Tri-Glide Exhaust Question
Hi all, I originally posted these questions in the M8 forum, but got little response, so thought I might ask here:
After reading thread after thread about exhausts for the new M8 motors, I have managed to confuse myself beyond self help.
I have a 2017 Tri-Glide with the new M8, and want to just put a set of Street Cannon slip-ons on, but I am getting conflicting info from dealers.
Can I add the slip-ons only without adding a tuner and/or High-flow air cleaner? And if so am I risking any damage to the engine.
Also I have read that the 2016 Slip-ons work on the 2017 Trikes..anyone have any input on that?
Lastly are there better options than the Street Cannons? Once my warranty ends I plan on putting V/H Power Duals, a tuner and a air cleaner, so I am really trying to keep the budget low for now.

The 2016 Street Cannons work fine with the 2017 TG. The new model Street Cannons will not work. As for tuning, none needed if you are just doing the slip-ons. I have that setup on my 2017 TG and it's perfect for me. It's an easy install.
My dealer had me confused also until I went under and saw for myself. The M8 exhaust has a reducer after the cat. The 2017 catalog also explains what year the new and the old SC work for. By the way no adapters needed also. That was another thing that the dealer told me that I would need. They were way off on that and it seems to be a pattern.

I am also looking for different exhaust options on my 2017 tri-glide. After research this is what I have come up with. Please correct me when needed. Up to 2016 slip-ons can be used because of the extension/reducer/adapter pipe is used on the right side. The left side has the extended cross over pipe. Can't use the Vance and Hines Power Duals yet because the standard cross over pipe that comes with the Power Duals is not of the extended type, They have designed a adapter kit but they have not come out yet.

the M8 has a 2.5 (two n half) inch outlet from the Catalytic converter to the Gas side muffler.
and the left/clutch side is the old style 1.75 (inch n three quarter) outlet.
so....you are saying the Trike has a 2.5 inch outlet, and then an adapter that necks down to 1.75? (how much HP/TQ does that chokedown lose?)
and therefore, the Trikes can use old style 1.75 mufflers on both sides?
that would seem to be a great cost savings.

I have a '18 Tri-Glide that is currently in the shop for shop and while it's there (in addition to a few minor upgrades) I'm also having ths Stage I kit installed, along with a pair of V&H Twin Slash, Oval, 50-state compliant, slip-on mufflers that came off of my friend's '12 Ultra.
The service manager claims they will fit and I will know for sure after Monday.
I've been told (not confirmed), that just changing the mufflers (as long as they have baffles) does not require a tuner but I still preferred to go with the Stage I upgrade.

The V&H Twin Slash Rounds are on it now and I like the way they look (much better than the OEM's) but they should be louder.
I have a DK Lift kit and I have somewhere between 6-1/4"-6-1/2" clearance from the bottom of the mufflers to the ground.
FYI, the muffler inlets are the same size diameter on the M8 Tri-Glides as the pre-M8 bikes, but the M* bikes have different size head pipes.
