Default Tri Glide electric reverse locked up. Big amp draw when engaged.

Everything looks to be in working order on the motor. Brushes look great. can turn gear box when armatuer is separated but when I assemble it together and install it's just a dead draw on the volt meter when you activate. HELP

Default They are a huge draw on the battery

You should back up at 2000 rpm...reverse when my battery was bad it would kill my battery in a heart beat. I keep Old Shiney at 2000 rpm when I use reverse which is very seldom and never up hill. Just how I do it good luck Fred

P.S. I am not by any stretch not a Harley Technician

Not a tech here but if your battery is good with sufficient charge and engine running when you tested it, I would take the unit to an electro-mechanic shop and have them bench test it.

Thanks Rhino 2 , The breaker is fine . Power goes to motor when engaged but it just drops amps on the volt meter. I'am thinking like you it probably is the armature or something dead grounded in the brushes !

have you checked the winding in the starter for being grounded with the case ? broken brushs ? lots of auto part places can bench test it.

I took it apart and did a visual inspection , but I think I need to pull it again and have it bench tested like you suggested . Thanks hardheaded
