Friend of mine did it once and immediately regretted it. Actually just told this story at work today. Traction is seriously compromised. Even if your thinking no big deal ill just do my sidewall you may get a small amount out onto the edge of your treads and when you do a hard lean at low speed the tire WILL slip out from under you. If you value the appearance of your bike at all, don't risk scraping one side of it because of tire shine.

I talked with a Dunlop tire tech rep and he advised that shine products interfere with the chemicals his company puts into the tire compound to prevent deterioration from sun and other elements. He recommends not using anything that might leach the chemical they intentionally put into the rubber.

I've heard the same thing from a reputable source so I don't use them. However, every once in a while I get one of those deluxe car washes for my car and they put it on because I forget to tell them not to.

If tire companies are putting special chemicals in their tires to protect from UV damage they had better start testing more in Florida or putting more of it in there. If you leave a vehicle sitting out all year with tires exposed they won't last down here. Every so often I will hit my tires with some 303 protectant.

Not if you use a quality tire shine like McQuires
Also, the rear tires are automobile tires. And they don't lean at all. No reason you cant put shine on the sidewalks. Actually, same argument forvthecfronts. Just don't put it on the tread. I've done this for 30,000 miles, and never had it spread to the tread, nor slip because of shine.
But, I wouldn't even think about doing it on a 2 wheeler.
Use at your own risk.
