Default Dont forget to change your key fob battery

Took the trike out for a 100 mile ride or so. Left early before sunrise it was about 65 and all the stars you would ever want to see here in the high desert by Joshua Tree. Pulled into to get some gas when I got back. Went to start and got the dreaded no key fob notice. Luckily I remember about a year ago a thread like this and I had thrown a spare into the owners manual. 5 minutes latter I was knees in the breeze, Yes I know you can use your PIN and all that but was thankful for this blog and all of the great tips. Ride safe Ride Free. And carry a spare battery.

Jim

Just a nite on that, you can get the fob batteries just about anywhere they sell batteries (very standard vehicle remote size). The dealers often ask about double the price of Walmart for example.

And keep that fob far away from where you carry your cell phone.

I just opened mine up and wrote down the number. How far is "far away" and why?

Mine only lasted 4 months on a new TG. It's best to be prepared even when new.

I do change the fob battery occasionally but I also like to refresh my memory on the emergency start procedure by using the code once in a while. It helps me remember the code and the procedure.

I replace when they die. So far most have gone about 4 years. Owners manual states replace each year but I am too cheap. They all stay in the bike and it has never been detrimental. Had ten bikes with security with all the same results with battery life. Cheapest 2032 button batteries are at HF. See I told you I was cheap.

I set the pin number to one that I know by heart and can whip that baby in with no problem. Did it a number of times over the years. Last year at Sturgis I got on the bike and rode off (the fob was 4 feet away in the tent). Got 200 miles down the road in Wyoming and got gas. Read out said enter pin #. Realized real quick my mistake. Only takes 15 seconds or so to input the # and away I went.
