Default Pan Hard Rod Heim Joint Replacement

Maybe you are familiar with my thread regarding a wandering issue that I believe is caused by worn heim joints:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/tri-g...-at-speed.html

I've decided to replace the joints, and have a few questions. I created this separate thread, to get some attention, as well as for future easier reference. So, here's my questions:

- The service manual indicates step one in replacement is to remove the rear body. They also reference this to replace the shocks, which isn't necessary. So, has anyone serviced the pan hard rod joints without removing the rear body.

- I would like to replace the heim joints with something better quality that the OEM ones. Anyone have a recommendation? What size should be ordered?

QS Components

RH Rod end 4005755906
RH Jam Nut 4005755763
Guess these are RH on both sides (edited)
These are good rod ends.

Cost you about $25 for all. I already had my body off when I did this a few years back. If I remember right, with the measurements you need to do, you will want the body off. Really not that much of a job.

I have a set of these on Big Blue. OEM were still good, but after seeing some Pix Dennis sent me, plus the body being off, I had to get a set. Surprised something like this hasn't made it to the "HDF triglide aftermarket", but have Dennis looking out for me. Thanks for the great lead!

TriGeezer,
My suggestion on trying without removing body would be just try it. I have done shocks many times and never removed body. But I am 5-8, 175 and I would not attempt replacing the rod ends on the pan-hard bar without removing body. I do not think I could contort myself, support bike correctly to get the 11.5 measurement between shock mount points needed to set the pan-hard bar (with shocks off and trike sitting on tires). Then try and torque it all up. With the body off, all this can be done safely and correctly. Just my opinion and others may think other wise.

Does anyone know if these part numbers are the same for a 2014 Trike?

Check part numbers for a pan hard bar of different years, if the same, nothing had changed. I do not recall any changes but best to check.

Just got back from the dealership. This is the 4th panhard fix on our '15 trike. We ordered the part numbers above, but come to find out that Harley uses right hand threads on both ends of the panhard. So now we have to re-order and get another right hand thread Heim joint.
If you are ordering parts, be sure if your panhard uses only right hand threads, or if you have one with both left and right.

I don't know what the deal is, but on the '15 they are definitely both right hand thread.

So at the moment, I have a new, better Heim on the left side, and the worn Harley Heim on the right. When the new part comes I will change out the Heim myself.

Thanks for that. It had been several years since I did it and thought they were left and rights. My memory is well, bad. Still a bunch cheaper than HD setup and better.
Ask for Todd or Frank, tell them Swan gave you wrong part numbers and they may take them back.

I just called Frank, one of the owners, he said you can return unused part for exchange. You will only be out the shipping. Best I could do.
