Default No Reverse

took the trike out of the garage Sunday and the reverse worked fine, drove 179 miles and parked it and ate lunch. When I returned and stated it I put it in reverse and nothing, light came on in dash but no reverse. Check for a tripped circuit breaker but it was okay so I tripped it and tried again but still no reverse, tried another time and still the same. Trike has only 5000 miles and it is a 2015. any suggestions before I head to the $100 shop, wish I had the money to have gotten the extended warranty

The breaker would be the only thing I would know to check, except maybe any obvious bad wiring etc. I assume you have a good battery in the bike? Is it the original battery. Just wondering because based on your miles it seems like the bike sits a lot.

I quit using my reverse all the time. Based on everything I have read I fully expect it to eventually go bad. I am only using it when I absolutely have to, thinking maybe I can get 3 or 4 years service out of it.

Now is the time to put a manual shift on for about the same price as replacement of the electric motor. Might be a bit more money with labor to install, but it will be the last time, and it will actually back up hills.
You can do the install yourself and save.

You might have bumped Reverse with the park brake on. Pops that breaker for sure. Just reset it.

from another forum:

1'.....Had mine rebuilt on my 11 T/G Very easy to pull the motor out, I brought the motor to a rebuilder and he did it while I waited' Took about a half hour and 95 dollars..
The motor is an Hitachi..

2...

Check the website for Performance Alternator and Starter in Canton OH.

Note their claim of "Lifetime Warranty" at the top of the page. And, no, I have no affiliation with them!!! Their video is very interesting.

I couldn't have mine rebuilt by these guys in OH because the body of my motor was cracked and they wouldn't have accepted my core. The previous owner must have overtorqued the bolts attaching the cap to the motor body and he cracked the 2 brackets.
I had to buy a completely refurbished motor with no core from a vendor in CA and it cost me $450. Still much cheaper than a new one from Harley or a mechanical reverse.
