Default Hydroplaning

2015 Trike with stock tires and trip from PA to MD the bike hydroplane twice on me. Never had any issues with my Ultra Classic riding through some heavy downpours, but this trike is scaring me.

Went to local custom shop and asked about tires and they didn't have a recommendation.

Any words of wisdom?

Slow down when riding in the rain, especially standing water. I've had a 2015 and now have a 2017, I've experienced it on both. I rode a Ultra Classic before the trikes, never had this happen on it.

let's think about this for a moment:
Large contact patch from wide tires + little weight on back end + water= hydroplaning.
Bet it's not worth a **** in the snow either.
Slow down.

For sure it sucks in light snow (assume the same in heavy snow), the tip about slowing down is a bitch on three lane highway with everyone going 60+ in the rain.

I ride in snow 3 inch or less, Did with my 11T/G Every winter, And will do it with my 17T/G This winter....I just have to remember to stay off the front brake, Otherwise it becomes a ski....Gonna be interesting though with the 17, What with linked brakes....??

As the others said. And it will be worse if the highway has worn channels.

FWIW...the stock rear Dunlop Signatures are poorly rated tires. I swapped mine for Michelin Pilots, and never had any hydroplaning issues.

Just back from a weekend trip on our '16 TG that included about 75 miles of heavy rain. Traffic was moving about 65 MPH and I had no problem. I lined the front wheel up on the track left by the car ahead of me. Granted it was a good road, but I felt quite comfortable.
