Default Another Reverse Issue

I searched the threads for this particular problem, but found none.
The reverse on my '11 TG went out a few weeks ago.
No big deal.
I decided yesterday to take the unit out to see what was wrong.
It was just incredibly dirty and needed a good cleaning and lubrication.
I cleaned the armature, checked the brushes and reinstalled everything.
I set up a test rig so I could check it before I reinstalled it.
And now, when I hit the start connector of the solenoid, the motor runs backwards !!
The pinion gear comes out like its supposed to, but it is turning the wrong way.
I have worked with DC devices for a long time, but have never seen one that changed direction without reversing polarity first.
I'm stumped.
What will cause this??

It seems like if the pinion gear is spinning the right way, then the motor must be turning the right way.

If it were me I would look to see if I had accidently crossed anything inside.

If the the gear is turning clockwise...Then it's the right way...

Maybe the magnetic part was put back in 180 degrees out?

Any idea how to get them "in phase"?
The brush holder assembly only goes on one way to fit right.
If you rotate it 180, the lead won't reach the solenoid.
I wish there was an assembly drawing available for this thing.

Looking at the gear, facing the end of the housing, the gear is turning clockwise, which will make the bike go forward when it engages.
I watched a You Tube video of a reverse motor test which showed the correct direction for the gear. Mine is turning opposite that one.
I checked to make sure the planetary gears are moving freely and correctly.
This just makes no sense to me.
How does a DC motor switch rotation if the polarity hasn't swapped??

When the gear/teeth of the reverse motor engage the reverse ring gear on the rear axle/drive pulley...The gear turns the reverse ring gear clockwise..
So the the gear on the reverse motor is also turning Clockwise....Looking at the motor with you facing the left rear tire...
I took my reverse motor out 3 times myself.....to 1 clean 2 repair and the third to rebuild.
