Default Upon relocating oil filter

does the passenger experience more heat, due to the location of the oil filter? Since the new oil filter location is under the left footboard, when stopped, does enough heat rise for the passenger to notice?

I am considering relocating the oil filter on my FreeWheeler but this question needs to be answered before I do any work.

I know that Mary doesn't, and that has been about 40K miles of riding. Her foot is actually much closer to the primary than the relocated oil filter, so any little heat that the filter is radiating is nil compared to the primary.

If you are doing the Oil Filter/Oil Cooler kit combo...everything is much cooler (30+ degrees cooler), and that is very noticeably cooler.

Even with just the Oil Filter Relocation, everything is 10 degrees cooler...so that is all the air going past the engine and flowing up the passengers sides is cooler, with the combo kit, and with just the filter relo.

If any of our Customers have thought that it felt warmer, none of them have mentioned it to us...but we have had many mention that it felt cooler.

My friend installed the filter relo kit on his 17 TrGlide. There was no noticeable heat increase at all. His passenger didn't even realize he had done it.

I will be putting one on as soon as my dealer maintenance package is completed and I start changing my own oil again.

I relocated the oil filter last year, no notice of increased heat for the passenger. Very good move for me since I did the dual cool, filter relocate and added oil cooler. Jim

I just placed an order for the oil filter relocation kit today. I need to get all necessary items in place, so doing the next oil change will get everything done at once. The weather is getting colder and chances for riding will diminish until springtime.

That relocation kit will probably not fit our trike as the Hannigan body looks to be in the way. So, I plan to go with the universal oil filter relocation kit that DK sells. Those fit on the front frame downtube. Freewheels should be able to fit either kit, depending on which mounting location you prefer.

This post is for DK. Do you offer your oil relo kit with black fittings, instead of brass?

We do not, but you can either paint the brass, or black fittings are easily had at a store or online.

We have a few Customers that have done both.

Thanks! Painting them is a solution and it might prevent leaks. In case I want to install black ones, what fittings do I need to buy?
