They are screwed into a brass fitting last I knew. I think I got a hold on the screw with channel loc's, then pulled outward as I turned. Then got new fittings & installed.

did you drill the heads off of the screws first so you can remove the inner of the lower fairing ? i turn the torx screw and it just keeps spinning. i'm assuming the brass insert is spinning to. don't know how i would get ahold of it with the torx bolt still in place. thanks !

drill off the head, they lift apart, then you can angle the screw to make the insert "bite" to unscrew ( if lucky ) if not, need to apply glue or something to keep insert from turning in plastic

what a crappy setup this is. why in the hell would HD make something like this ? i'll drill this garbage out and use longer bolts and nylocks when putting it back together. harley has done some dumb **** before but this is over the top.

The bat wing front is held together the same way. The lower inside screws are a bitch to get started straight. Careful or you will cross thread them.
Some people have used loctite on these screws. Makes ya want to take them out behind the woodshed for a lesson or two !
Harley sells new inserts if you need any.

I guess I was lucky. When I took my lowers off, the screws just came right out.
Same thing when I put them back on for the winter.
No problems at all.
