Default Is this a feature on an illusion?

My 5 speed Jeep Wrangler warns me when I am in too high (or low) of a gear by blinking a yellow down(up) arrow. Fair enough.

We just got back from the Ga/Tn/NC mountains riding the twisties. I was in 6th gear and beginning to bog and I noticed the odometer "6" begin blinking. I down-shifted and it went to a steady "5". I had noticed this a couple of times later in other gears. At first, I figured the computer was just trying to "figure out" what gear I was in. Later I saw the same in fifth gear for the same condition (under speed). Don't get me wrong, I know how and when to shift. In both occasions, I had my left hand doing another task for a moment (stowing my clip-ons).

Is this an intended feature? To warn the rider when you are going too slow for the transmission state? Or am I just imagining this?

Never noticed it, and I've never seen it mentioned, don't remember it being the manual either. Since it's "calculated" based on RPM vs speed and not from any mechanical sensor, it could be that the RPM is out of range low, or they could have programmed it to do that. Now I'll have to try it.

Might be... my Insignia (car) shows a little up or down arrow and a number - like "^5" when it thinks I'm too fast for 4. I just ignore it, they're made for morons.

It is, however, reasonably intelligent - when you're pulling away, going up hill, using engine braking, or accelerating hard... it doesn't show.

Bringing this thread back to life.
I did a search on "blinking gear" and found my own post.

About a week ago (and nearly a year to the day), I was doing 90 mph. I looked down and noticed the gear indicator blinking. It was also very hot. Probably 95F. I am still curious was this means.

Maybe your motorcycle was telling you to slow down and enjoy the ride?
