Fixed reverse

Fixed reverse
So I have a 2013 Tri-glide. It has not quite 12000 miles and the reverse stopped working. The relay would click and that's it .I jacked up the right side and took off the seat. With a long bar I could tap the motor while pushing the reverse button and the motor would engage and spin but it was weak. After some research I decided a rebuild shop was the cheapest option. After taking the motor off I decided to start pulling it apart .I figured if I couldn't put it back together a shop could.I pulled the back off and noticed some of the brushes were stuck. After a little lube they freed up so I put it back together and spun it over with a battery jump box and it worked so I put it back on the bike .Fired it up and it sounds and works as good as ever.

Why they don't use a brush-less motor is beyond me.
P.S.
Just checked, and there is a lot of rebuild kits there, like a new armature w/new brush plate for $99. Also some steep prices for rebuilt motors

Ours went out on our '15 at about 15,000 miles. Went to get it replaced on ESP. The shop naturally said it had to be diagnosed first, or ESP wouldn't pay. (my armature was burnt up like I told them)
Harley sends the dealers what they call an "electronics repair kit". Part number 31400129. Our invoice says $314.20
It is a kit with new armature, brushes, coils, bearings, basically everything but the hard case on the outside. They told me they greased the planetary, put the kit in there, and they put a boot cover over the battery connection.
Works fine now, just thought I'd let you guys know the kit is out there and available. They told me a new motor was upwards of $1500.00

Thanks for the info about the kit. It's really easy to tear down and put back together. Just be sure to have a good place to do it like a table or something because there's a ball bearing on the end of the armature that will fall off . Just put a dab of grease on it and it will stay while putting the motor back together.

P.S.
If you Google that part number It comes up the serial # for an Embraer A-298 Super Tucano aircraft in the Chili Air Force.
