Transition from 2-wheels to 3-wheels
#21
went from 2 wheels to 3 this Spring.....8000 miles later couldn't be happier and mine is bone stock....will add the DK comfort lift this winter.....as far as getting to the steering, the Leyman website has an excellent video that talks about the differences of riding the trike...especially how to reduce the effort of steering....hint...it has to do with a locked elbow and pushing and adding the pull instead of trying to pull the handlebars.....reduces the effort dramatically with just a simple adjustment of technique...

Next March I will be 68 and that will also be the 50th Anniversary of my two-wheel adventure(s).
I'll still have access to two or three two-wheelers (at least until I can sell one) so I'll have options.
I've ridden ATV's and snowmobiles for years so the steering basics are the same, so for me it's just a matter of setting up the trike to fit me (handlebars, foot pegs. backrest, etc.

I went to 3 wheels because I wanted to. I've been on two wheels for 30+ years and always wanted to try three. Had an '05 Star 1100 that was kind of nice, but 3 wheels has always intrigued me. I've been looking at frankentrikes, vw trikes, some other models with small block v8s etc, but kept coming back to triglides.
Wife wrecked our "good" car, so I figured it was a good time to take advantage and make the move. I'd probably buy another two wheeler if I could, but its definitely not a priority. This three wheeler (2010 triglide ultra mostly stock) is pretty cool. I'm actually enjoying learning how to ride again, between turning, feeling the road different, single fixed axle etc. I have a friend who, when I told him about my three wheeler (he's 5 or so years older than me) kept telling stories about friends who got trikes, but kept putting in lines like "because he's getting older" or "because he couldn't handle two wheels anymore".. felt like I was being condescended to. I just kind of let him say his piece. He's got a big ol 110 with stage 1 through 4 on it, all the bells and whistles which he likes. I say to each his own. I'd never own his bike but that's me, it's just a bit much.
I've always said you can get there fast, or you can look good doing it. I do both.

I switched from 2 wheels to 3 wheels in October of 2016 with my 2017 Triglide.
Best move I ever made. Love my Trike. I did not change because of any physical issues. I am very capable of riding a 2-wheeler. I chose 3 wheels, well just because I wanted to. There is some re-training you have to do, but stay with it and riding a Trike will become 2nd nature to you. I love the safety, stability and cornering of the Trike. We traded in our 2008 Road King Classic.

I too made the switch to three wheels. My wife would not lean when we went through curves. In fact she would counter lea, making me work harder to get the Dyna around the corners. Her leg troubles made getting on and off the two wheeler more difficult. So, I told her that I wanted to trade for a trike. There was a lot of hesitation on her part after I got the FreeWheeler home. I had the passenger backrest added at the dealer but it needed more. Finally found the wrap around and let her get used to that. Now she will pop up and say "let's go for a ride"! We have been through rain and sun and it hasn't diminished her love of riding any at all. We have been buying more leather for her for the cooler days.
