Had the dealer service my 13 tri. (3 fluids, etc). On the way home I could smell oil burning. (figured they dropped a little bit on the exhaust which is right beside the filler neck). By the time I got home, oil was puking out the air cleaner onto the pipe. I have a digital dipstick and it was reading "hi oil". Drained off I/2 quart to get a "full". Digital dipstick...just push a button to get a reading...how difficult can that be?

Sometimes they let the wash rack guy do the "simple" things like oil changes. A parts guy at my dealer tried to tell me it took a full gallon to fill the oil. His gallon must be different sized than mine.

I made a mistake a few years ago, and had my local H-D do a 10K mile maintenance on my 2015 Freewheeler.
1 - when cold, the engine oil was FULL. When the engine warmed up, it staring leaking under the air filter. So I started to investigate further...
2 - primary had 32 oz of Formula +, not the 38oz required
3 - the rear wheel hub caps weren't touched, so I'll guess they didn't check the wheel nut torque.
4 - They replaced both spark plugs, for no apparent reason. Thankfully, it only cost $8.50. per plug, but they weren't replaced under warranty(?)
That was the FIRST time I'd gone to the dealer in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. I've never gone back, even for parts.

The "shop" torqued the derby covers to the max spec. The next time I went to do a 3-hole change I snapped 2 torx driver bits. Replaced those silly bolts with hex cap screws. No more issues.

#2 Be sure you are reading the correct fluid amount for a "wet" oil change, or a "dry" primary oil fill. The two are different amounts of oil.
If you put too much oil in the primary, you will generate heat and also have a lot of trouble finding neutral because the oil creates a drag on the clutch plates.
