Check the circuit breaker under the right cover.

Buddy had the same problem on his 14, reverse motor shot. Not cheap if you don't have extended warranty.

if it's clicking it's not the breaker. - it's shot. that's about 4000 in Harley money, however if you have the time it's just a starter motor. I'm sure someone knows which one - go see advanced autoparts and do the replace (a pain in the a$$) yourself

Like Trigeezer first thing o check is the circuit breaker under the right cover. When I got my 16 Trike a few months ago mine didn't work and I had been told about the CB so I pulled the right cover and pushed the "RED" button nothing pushed the "RED" button again took it to the dealer Tech took it in pushed the "BLACK" button and it worked fine BOY DID I FEEL DUMB. point is check the black button under the right side cover and make sure it's in before you take it to the dealer.

Hopefully you have the ESP ON IT. Mine went on my 2014, brought it to the dealer,
he looked it over, and released it back to me. He ordered the motor from HD.
By the end of the week, he called me back in. It only took about two hours. He told
me without the warranty, the motor woulda cost about $1500. Plus 2 hrs labor.
i was glad I bought the warranty.

Harley now sells a rebuild kit for the reverse motor, around $350, cheaper than a whole new motor

Just an FYI, looking at the wiring diagram for a '14. You will still hear a "click" when trying to start even though the circuit breaker may be tripped open.

The ECM controls the Reverse Control Module (RCM), which powers the Reverse Control Solenoid, energizing it to go into reverse once all the interlocks are met.

That solenoid switches battery power on to the Reverse Motor Solenoid (like a Bendix) which engages the reverse gear. When the gear travels far enough to get the gear fully engaged, a contact moving along with it closes and powers the Reverse Motor. Both the Reverse Motor Solenoid and Reverse Motor get 12V power directly from the battery leads via the circuit breaker.

And by the way, the RCM gets it's power from the P/A supply (Parts and Accessories), which if you lose that, you've lost a lot more than just reverse. But the Reverse Control Solenoid will work with that power present.

So if the circuit breaker trips, you can still hear the Reverse Control Solenoid clicking, but of course the Reverse Motor Solenoid and Reverse Motor will not work.

Moral of the story: Check the breaker even if it clicks when attempting to start. If it trips open on overload it only goes partway open; to fully reset (latch) it you need to fully trip (open) it with the red button first, and then close it back in with the black lever. Do both, every time.

Edit: The Reverse light comes off of the ECM via the RCM and only tells you that you can use reverse, the Neutral, engine RPM and button initially pushed requirements are met.
