Those parts are part of the rear drive system, but are for the axle bearings out next to the wheels. This problem is at the differential assembly .

Basically the only thing I kept was the comp basket and reverse gear ring

Good excuse to buy my Harbor Freight 20T press.

 

Lateral alignment was a real pain.




Naked and dirty. Just need tag for the license plate and I’ll slap the body back on and ride it.

 

Thanks for the post. I also have a 2012 tri glide with the same problem, I caught it sooner and didn't damage the axel housing. It looks to me as the snap ring next to the sprocket was missing, like it was never there. I'm replacing everything in the differential assembly except the reverse ring gear. Parts coming from surdyke for a bit under $1000.00. Question, what type and how much grease did you put in the Diff asm, service manual states it is greased at factory and not to add more. Also, are you taking any steps to prevent this from happening again?

 

I had to buy new diff, correct, it was full of grease. I’m checking once a week with a flashlight to see if the snap ring is still there. I don’t think the snap ring was ever there.
