I received this information from Andrew Products in regards to gear driven camshaft for 2007 and up TC models; "Check the crank run-out before ordering and make sure it is .003" or less or the crank will need to be re-trued." Just my two cents.

I have seen that info from many sources. One of the reasons I am asking. Are our engines less than or greater than the .003" spec

My friend has a 2002 RK . When he installed the gear driven camshaft, the round out was 0.00. The installation was done by an indy shop where the owner are former HD techs. He like gear driven since it eliminate the spring loaded chain tensioner on the cam plate and the chains. I cannot answer your question in regards to " Are our engines less than or greater than the .003" spec" since I do not know the answer. Hopefully someone on this forum can give you the answer. Good luck!

The only way to know is to open up the cam chest and get down to the crank shaft to be able to measure the run out.
Anything over .003 will take out the cam gear..
They are noisy while running compared to the chain drive. Also a spendy project to do.
With the newer oil pressure ternsioner most you worry about is wearing the shoe out.
Unless you are racing the engine you would never see any advantage in the gear drive. I guess bragging rights that you had enough money to put in a gear drive and say listen to this !

thanks for the input, I know there are pros and cons each way. And from what I've read, gear drive is not as noisy as it used to be. It's for my trike, plan on travel, camping some and like the dependable aspect of gears.
