Question Jump start

Okay, most all of us have some form of roadside assistance for our Triglides. That said, in extremis, what is the best way to jump start one of our bikes out in the sticks or on the side of the road ? Too long of winters here and too much time to ponder such things.

Inside that thing is something similar to one of these:

With a little care you could save a fortune.

Cheap is not the way to go with starter units. Cheap ones have been known to catch fire in storage when hot. The Micro comes with every thing to power any device you have. Spent $149 on mine.

Default Noco gb40

The NOCO GB40 is a nice quality unit. This is (I believe) the same company that makes the HD charger like this. You can find this online from 89.00 up to 125.00.They also have some a little smaller power wise and price. Uses a USB cable to charge it.

THIS is what I've been carrying for quite a few years now. It's helped me out a few times, and I've helped out quite a few bikes and two different cages with it over the years.

I've also used it to charge the phones, camera and laptop while camping.

And if you don’t want to go through the PITA to connect to the battery. Connect the + to the starter connection from the battery, and the - to where the battery - connects to the main ground at the transmission.

Cheap is not the way to go with starter units.
I didn't say go cheap but the LiPo inside of your starter could well be what I posted so your supplier can make a huge profit.

LiPo batteries are very volatile at times and have caused people to lose their homes.

As they age they lose their ability to supply the power they are claimed to supply. They can get very hot and cause the chain reaction that starts a fire. Once going you will be hard pressed to stop it.

LiPo batteries have what is called a C rating. This is a multiplier of its capacity. The 8Ah battery I posted in theory ought to be good for 240 Amps continuous and 400 Amps peak for a few seconds but the sad fact is those C ratings are marketing gibberish that do not stand up in the real world.

Just be careful. You may have been carrying your unit for a long time and you may have used it a couple of times but ask it to supply the sort of current claimed and I am not sure it is going to actually work as claimed.

I carry a similar one. Mostly for others benefit as I have never had to jump start any of my bikes or my Tri-glide.
