What mileage are you getting on the tri glide drive belts? All answers appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Default Depends.

I thought some would have answered with their opinions on this. From what I have seen over the last 10 years or so, under normal use and conditions, most are getting 70 to 100 thousand miles or more. These "modern day" versions seem to be pretty much bullet proof unless you are a drag racer or otherwise abuse them. I had to have mine replaced at about 5,000 miles but it was because I must have picked up a rock, or something similar. It cut a gash in the middle all the way around the belt. It went about half way thru the thickness of the belt. I never heard it or smelled anything. I found it when I finished the ride and was looking over everything on the trike. Luckily my Comprehensive Insurance paid for it. Local HD shop charged $1,440.00 for the repair. Thank goodness I had the Comprehensive coverage.

I've never had a drive belt to break but I have had one replaced due to a gravel being imbedded in it (Al-Can Hwy I believe) and pushed through the belt. I just didn't want to risk the belt failing and the belt had almost 40,000 miles on it when it was replaced.

JMHO, but at one time H-D was selling a belt "lube" in hopes (I guess) that it may prevent the belt from wear or dry rot, but I believe the stuff may have attracted or trapped sand and small stones in the belt teeth.

My bet is the odds are you should have a second bike available. More likely to be stolen than the belt break.

WOW...S1440 for a $200 part repair. Do those 3 wheelers require that much disassemble to get a belt on. I have 70 service manuals but no trikes.

My guess is since is was handled under your comp coverage, most was just ink and not real money.

Regular warranty would probably not fixed it.

$1440.00 is a fantastic price for replacing a belt on a trike. I got a quote on my freewheeler from two dealers in Canada and they were both over $2800.00. That is one of the many reasons I got rid of the freewheeler and bought a sportster that I am in the process of putting a Frankenstein trike kit on. On a Frankenstein sportster you could change the belt on the side of the road with just a few tools.

That’s about right with the amount of time involved replacing the belt

Could find no YouTube videos on it. Appears folks who buy these are not do it your self type.

Default Belt Replacement Cost

I thought I would post this to give interested owners the part numbers and cost for drive belt replacement on a HD trike.

I had to have a drive belt replaced on my 2016 TGU in June of 2017. Below is a list of the parts and labor charges from a local area dealer. Luckily it was covered under my comprehensive insurance policy. All items are for 1 quantity unless noted in ().

10500031 SCREW COMPENSATOR $4.04

11150 RETAINING RING .52

12052A OIL SEAL INNER PRIMARY $5.22

12074 OIL SEAL $7.99

12077 OIL SEAL OUTPUT GEAR $4.86

17369-06 GASKET SERVICE KIT, 1K,5 $5.17

27444-00Y 0-RING $4.04

2952A SCREW, SEMS TRUSS HEAD $2.27

34091-08 RACE, INNER BEARING $14.34

34901-07 GASKET PRIMARY COVER $36.00

34934-06 GASKET PRIMARY HOUSING T $14.29

35241-06 NUT, SPROCKET $11.66

3594 SCREW, HEX SOCKET (QTY 2 @ .52) $1.04

37496-90A NUT, MAINSHAFT $18.83

37909-90 CLUTCH CIRCLIP, FX, FL, U $14.94

40040-05 BELT, REAR DRIVE, 139 T00 $221.14

786A BOLT SEAL (QTY 5 @ $3.02) $15.10

99824-03/BULK SYN III OIL SERVICE DEPT (QTY 2 @9.95) $19.90

LABOR 12 HOURS @$85.00/HOUR $1,020.00

TOTAL COST $1,421.35

As stated above, these were June of 2017 prices for parts and labor. I am not sure what the local dealers are charging now for labor. I understand that Dealers in some larger areas of the country are considerably higher on labor charges.

Looking back thru these posts the thought came to me that someday, someone is going to design a belt that can be installed without disassembling the entire drivetrain.
