Default Transmission Sprocket Change Begins

Let the games begin. Started on changing the transmission sprocket from the anemic 32 tooth to a 30 tooth HD part number 83595-11 today. I'll update this thread and pictures as I progress.

Picture of the primary chain before I removed the tensioner.

Zip tied the tensioner in place per the manual, I'm of the school the more zip ties the better. The tensioner wear pad is in pretty good shape. Only thing I don't like is the chain was tighter than it should have been, only had 1/2" of deflection. I may install one of the wedge tensioners from these folks http://www.sohotbikes.com/wedge.html

This is a picture of the compensator sprocket and ramps. I was interested to see how the sprocket would look. There had been guys seeing some gulling where the ramps run on the sprocket, mine is showing some of this gulling.

Shot of the primary with everything removed.

I like to bag oily parts so they don't get contaminated with dirt which would require disassembly and cleaning. This is the clutch basket which I will break down and inspect the frictions and steels at a later time. I'll also be installing a Screamin Eagle spring to give a little more clamping pressure.

A shot of the poor trike with a lot of parts missing.

Some of the pieces and parts, you couldn't tell by the look of the gas tank I love blue painters tape.

M3, Let us know just how hard the sprocket is to get off. I am thinking of doing the 30T myself but I will have to invest in a tool to lock the sprocket so I can get it off.

I'll let you know. I was surprised at how easy the compensator bolt came loose. I can remember the one on my 06 Ultra being much tighter.

Great Pictures and write up, The gulling in that area is a little alarming.Makes you wonder where make that part at.

Lookin good M3, and OM3 is right about practice, the 2nd one goes easier and faster. Just wondering why the tank removal?

Default Missed your calling

Great camera work M3, you know I envy that

You should think about doing some technical how to video's. I am watching this closely, if I was not so cheap and bought the specialty tools I might not have to farm this job out.

I was interested about the tank removal also? Got some other work going on here?

Keep practicing we may give you a shot at fixing that mysterious unfixable oil leak "from another post". Get you the top shade tree mechanic of the year award

I be thinkin' they be doin' triple 5 cam change and black ops lifters. No adjustable push rods for these guys so rocker covers come off!

You are %100 correct. There is nothing wrong with adjustable push rods we just elect not to use them.
