I am going to be building my own rear bumper...going to be a bit different design.

Could someone who has a rear bumper tell me (or better yet post some pics) where the bumper is attached to the frame?

I have done google searches and looked at the HD site and found nothing.

Just found it. Called a Chrome Rear Guard...not a bumper. lol

My rear guard (bumper) is attached to the same bolts the body uses to attach to the frame. The bolts are a little longer than stock bolts.

I was just about to post that but you beat me to it! Good instruction sheet to download.

 

Those are the same bolts that they use for the trailer hitch also. So if you plan on adding a hitch later on, you might want to plan ahead for that. Or, incorporate it into your bumper design.

 

The hitches I have looked at use the four bolt holes that are on the two cross-members, not the four bolts that are used for bolting the body too the frame.

 

You are correct, they use the four bolts that are in the two cross members.
